Ruth Banta

Ruth Brod Banta, 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on April 9th, 2024. She is survived by her children, Deborah Brod (Scott Lincoln), Daniel Brod, Michael Brod (Miriam Dunsker Brod), four grandchildren, Hannah Brod (Dexter Brown), Naomi Clements-Brod (Henry Bertram), Eva Brod, Leah Brod, and three great-grandchildren, Zipporah and Otto Brown, and Max Clements-Brod-Bertram.

Ruth was a dedicated mom and grandma, deeply involved in the lives of her family. She also had a passion for the creative arts of all kinds. Ruth Banta’s unique art reimagined everyday objects into the fantastic. When you experience her fiber art you are drawn into her unique imagination. Some of her favorite sculptures can be viewed at her website ruth-banta.com.

Ruth had wanted her memorial to be funny and unconventional, like she was. She would have created a crocheted casket if she had the time. She would never miss a chance to add a pun into everyday conversation. I think she would want to say to you: be clever, think beyond the ordinary, go ahead and play with your food!

Her work in fiber and crochet has been exhibited regionally and nationally including at the Cincinnati Art Museum Biennial, Columbus Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Store, Chicago, also galleries in New York, Chicago, Madison, Louisville and Cincinnati. Her work was included in many private and corporate collections and was featured in numerous publications. She earned her BFA, and MA in Art Education, from the University of Cincinnati.

In remembrance of Ruth Weintraub Brod Banta’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the blood cancer research institution, Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Research Foundation, https://www.mpnresearchfoundation.org/.
