The B. Manischewitz Co. Story Part II to take place Tuesday, April 9

By Melissa Hunter

Assistant Editor

On April 9, join Hirsch Wise, grandson and third generation member of the Wise family, to learn about Hershel Manischewitz and his relationship with A. B. Wise. Hear how their bonding led to the future establishment of A.B. Wise & Sons, Inc. and, over time, four generations of the Wise family managing the business and carrying on the Manischewitz legacy.

Last November, the Mayerson JCC hosted The Manischewitz Story: A Cincinnati Treasure. Hosted by Abby Schwartz, Curatorial Consultant of Cincinnati’s Skirball Museum, the lecture recounted the origins of the company as a small matzo bakery in the West End of Cincinnati in the late 1800s, as well as celebrated the completion of the J Community Cookbook. This second installment of the Manischewitz story will include details of A.B. and Hershel’s relationship in Israel, how Hershel whisked A.B. out of Israel when he was enlisted in the Turkish army, and how A.B. became the first-ever appointed Manischewitz distributor in 1928 – 1998. It will also focus on the Wise family contribution, not only to the business, but also to Jewish life in Cincinnati and Israel.

Drinks and appetizers will be served. Don’t miss this informative and entertaining event. Visit the Mayerson JCC to register.
