Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt

Some days it’s hard to tell — with snow flurries drifting by or winds that feel closer to tornado season than spring — but despite the false starts, warmth is finally seeping into the Ohio Valley. And when the sun does break through, it has a predictable effect: it puts people — especially teens — in the mood for frozen treats. That seemed like the perfect excuse to pay a visit to Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt.

In my life outside of The American Israelite, I’ve recently spent time with a group of teens from areas well north of Kenwood. Given the distance — and the number of ice cream options closer to home — I casually asked if they had ever heard of Rhino’s. The response caught me completely off guard.

Not only had nearly all of them heard of it, but several had made the drive down to Kenwood specifically to try it. When I began explaining just how popular Rhino’s is with teens, I was quickly cut off.

“We know,” they said.

So I pressed a little further: they really drove all that way just for frozen yogurt? The answer was a resounding yes.

That’s when it became clear — Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt hasn’t just built a following; it has cornered the teen frozen dessert market.

When I first met owners Rob and Lori Miller, it didn’t take long to understand that this kind of loyalty isn’t accidental. From the very beginning, Rob envisioned Rhino’s as a welcoming gathering place for neighborhood kids. And when he realized that some Jewish children in the area couldn’t partake, he made a point to change that, going through the process to have the yogurt certified kosher.

He recalls that decision with genuine emotion. “The idea that there were kids nearby who couldn’t eat our yogurt broke my heart,” he told me. “After all, I made this place for kids to enjoy.” Despite the added effort, the Millers made it happen — ensuring that Rhino’s could truly be a place for everyone.

As business grew, so did the space. The Millers eventually purchased the neighboring property, expanding parking and giving teens even more room to gather, socialize and linger over their creations.

And that word — creations — is really at the heart of Rhino’s appeal.

Yes, it’s a frozen yogurt shop. But more than that, it’s an ever-evolving dessert playground. Over the years, the Millers have continually added new dispensers, expanded into ice cream offerings, rotated flavors and dramatically increased their toppings selection — now boasting well over 100 options.

The toppings alone are a spectacle. They stretch across an entire wall and spill onto much of the counter space, inviting a kind of joyful indecision. The sign outside says it all: “21 flavors of soft serve, gelato, sorbet, frozen yogurt and Dole Whip.” And unlike so many bold claims in the food world, this one delivers exactly what it promises.

Over 100 toppings

From classic fruit and chocolate combinations to more inventive, seasonal offerings, there’s something here for every kind of sweet tooth — whether you prefer a simple swirl or a fully loaded masterpiece.

The cold toppings lineup includes everything from chocolate chips and Reese’s to strawberries, cherries, and more. Then there’s the candy wall — a colorful, slightly chaotic collection of choices you may never have imagined pairing with frozen yogurt. Gummy bears, sour worms, candy corn, gumballs — if there’s a topping you’re craving that Rhino’s doesn’t carry, it might be best left undiscovered.

So while the calendar may still be debating whether it’s truly spring, the crowds at Rhino’s aren’t waiting. Teens are already making the trip — and honestly, so should you, because Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt is a place where the last taste lingers long after it’s gone.
