The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is coming to the Mayerson JCC this May, offering community members the opportunity to gain critical lifesaving skills ahead of the busy summer swim season.
Designed to “prevent, protect and respond” to aquatic emergencies, the updated Red Cross curriculum reflects the latest research and best practices. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, helping participants build the confidence and ability to act quickly when it matters most.
Classes will be offered on multiple dates to accommodate different schedules: May 10 from 2 to 8 p.m.; May 12 and May 14 (women only) from 5 to 10 p.m.; May 15 (women only) from 4 to 8 p.m.; and May 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Participants must be at least 15 years old by the final day of class and will need to pass a swimming skills test. Those who enroll will receive comprehensive instruction from trained professionals, covering everything from water rescue techniques to emergency response and safety protocols.
With pools and aquatic facilities preparing for increased summer attendance, the need for well-trained lifeguards remains high. These certification courses not only open the door to employment opportunities but also equip individuals with skills that can make a lifesaving difference in any aquatic setting.
