Eleanor Miriam Shott

SHOTT, Eleanor (née Weiss), age 98, passed away in Cincinnati on January 7, 2026. Eleanor (“Ellie” to all that knew her well) was the beloved wife of the late Robert B. Shott, caring mother of surviving sons Douglas (Marilyn) Shott and Andrew (Sally) Shott and dear sister of her late brother Marshall Weiss. Ellie adored her grandchildren Benjamin Shott, David (Emily) Shott, Daniel (Jennifer) Shott and Gordon Shott almost as much as she delighted in her great-grandchildren Robert, Eleanor, Logan and Eli.

Ellie was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, NY. After attending University of Connecticut for a year, she transferred to the University of Michigan, where she graduated in 1947. While at UM, the “conquering heroes” from WWII returned to civilian life and college campuses across the country in 1945. Future Navy husband Robert, however, was not one of them because he was retained in the Philippines by General MacArthur to secure equipment to build an Army golf course outside Manila. Finally returning to Ann Arbor in 1946, Robert spotted Ellie at a sorority mixer, and on his third attempt, arranged a date with her. The 51 year marriage that followed their 1949 wedding in NYC was a love story filled with children, grandchildren, travel, dear friends, all things University of Michigan, family holiday gatherings, Mitey I & II (her Yorkshire Terriers) and their pursuits to make the world around them a better place.

Ellie was gracious, thoughtful and kind to all she met. She will be missed greatly and remembered forever by those who loved and knew her.

Services were held on January 11 (Sunday) at 1:00 p.m. at Rockdale Temple 8501 Ridge Road, Amberley Village, OH 45236, with a visitation preceding at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Halom House, Jewish Family Service, University of Michigan or any charity of your choosing would be greatly appreciated.
