Surf’s Up! Elvis may have “left the building,” but he’ll still be the life of the party when the Chai Minded Meet Up Club presents Elvis’ Blue Hawaii Beach Bash, a summertime soiree sure to make some waves on Tuesday, July 16th, from 4-6 p.m. at the Firehouse Grill’s private outdoor patio and adjoining, air-conditioned Sunset Room.
All “Oldies but Goodies who are young at heart” are invited to hang loose at this special high tide happy hour that pays homage to the King of Rock’s biggest box office smash of all time, “Blue Hawaii.” Guests are encouraged to come in flip flops, Hawaiian shirts, muumuus and/or other attire befitting the theme.
Beachgoers will have a ball when they take part in the Beach Blanket Bingo game, which will give guests a chance to meet new friends while they mix and mingle over an assortment of appetizers and desserts, not to mention, mai tais, margaritas and other tropical drinks and beverages.
“Who doesn’t love Elvis? Even though he’s no longer with us, his upbeat music and magnetic style still have a way of bringing people together,” explains Megan Bankin, Volunteer Program Co-Coordinator who came up with the concept for this event. “Our participants never stop wanting to feel young and vibrant, and this party offers the perfect way for them to kick up some sand and celebrate life!”
In addition, the event will feature a musical playlist of seashore inspired songs from the ‘50s, ‘60s and beyond, as well as outdoor games and karaoke. Plus, participants have a chance to strike a pose with the Rock n’ Roll legend himself at Elvis’ Super Surfer Selfie Station, complete with props and other paraphernalia sure to make every snapshot extra fun. All photos will be emailed to each subject’s inbox so they can show them off online, or print them out to pass around to family and friends as a great memento of the day.
“The turnout for the Chai Minded Meet Up events has surpassed our highest expectations,” says volunteer Event Coordinator, Pam Saeks, who helped found the program in response to requests from numbers of retirees who were looking for fun social opportunities like Access for young professionals and Shalom Family, initiatives she ran for two decades as the Director of Jewish Innovation and Engagement at The Mayerson Foundation. “Word of mouth has spread and we are already in search of venues that can accommodate more people,” she adds. “We couldn’t be happier to know that our efforts are paying off and there are now even more great options for people of all ages in our community to live life to its fullest.”
Space is limited to the first 150 to RSVP. Cost is $20/person at the door which includes appetizers and activities. Cash bar for all alcoholic beverages and soft drinks.
Elvis’ Blue Hawaii Beach Bash is sponsored in part by The American Israelite and Beverly Saeks. The Chai Minded Meet Up Club is a grassroots group whose mission is to have fun, meet friends and make some noise. All events are open to adults in the Jewish community who live independently. Non Jewish partners and friends are always welcome.
