Beginning on Tuesday, January 6, and lasting through most of January, Wise Center will be hosting “Tuesdays with Torah | Exploring Gender in Rabbinic Tradition.” This ongoing event will explore what the foundational texts of rabbinic Judaism say and don’t say about gender. Each session is expected to last from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 and will fall on a Tuesday.
Topics that will be explored in this edition of “Tuesdays with Torah” will include how rabbis imagined a woman’s role in marriage, religious authority and ritual purity. Such topics will bring about questions, such as, Were the rabbis more progressive than we assume? Or, How would feminist and liberal readings of these texts reconfigure our understanding of tradition?
Each sessions of “Exploring Gender in Rabbinic Tradition” will provoke nuanced, thoughtful discussions. Come January 6, 13, and 20 to hear and participate in these talks.
