Mayerson JCC’s Theatre at the J program will culminate this year with a presentation of Disney’s Moana Jr. Theatre at the J offers local children theater classes that teach them drama and acting skills and storytelling. According to the JCC website, the program offers the chance to “participate in theater games and activities that encourage creativity, self-expression, and self-confidence.” Eliana Rantz is the theater director and choreographers are Jeff and Laura Goldstein, Lara and Ronnen Isakov, Deobrah and John Moffat, Ronna and Ben Schneider, and Rabbi Elena Stein.
Moana Jr. is adapted from the Disney film Moana, set in Polynesia. The titular character embarks on a journey to save her community from famine by restoring the heart of the island. Moana Jr. is a musical adaptation of the film and will include songs from the Disney feature film. According to the Mayerson JCC website description of the play, Moana Jr. is a “coming of age story that celebrates the rich history of Oceania and follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana Jr. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us.”

Showtimes are Sunday, June 2, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., as well as Monday, June 3, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the Mayerson JCC website.
