Sylvia Rosenzweig Samis

April 1, 1948 – September 22, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sylvia Rosenzweig Samis, a beloved wife, mother, and exquisite violinist. Sylvia was born on April 1, 1948, in Munich, Germany, and her remarkable journey touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. On Friday, September 22, 2023, Sylvia peacefully departed this world while at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.
Sylvia’s passion for music was evident from a young age. She dedicated her life to the art of the violin, ultimately achieving the distinguished position of First Assistant Concertmaster in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Her artistry graced countless stages and always emotionally touched her listeners.
Beyond her musical prowess, Sylvia was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Charles Samis, and a nurturing mother to her daughter, Urielle Samis. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support enriched their lives immeasurably. Sylvia’s family was her greatest source of joy, and her legacy of love and resilience will forever guide and inspire them.
Sylvia was also the beloved daughter of Holocaust survivors Sabina and Isak Rosenzweig, and she always honored the legacy of her late parents through music, words, and Holocaust remembrance programs. Their limitless love for her and her family was always a source of spirit and strength for her throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 2:15 pm, allowing all to join in honoring Sylvia’s life and legacy. The service took place at Congregation Micah in Nashville, Tennessee (Congregation Micah, 2001 Old Hickory Blvd, Brentwood, TN 37027).
Immediately following the Celebration of Life, there was a graveside burial service at Micah Cemetery led by Rabbi Flip Rice.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sylvia’s name to Puppies behind Bars, a nonprofit organization that trains incarcerated individuals to raise service dogs. This gesture would be a fitting tribute to both Sylvia’s compassion toward those living without freedom and her lifelong love of animals.
Sylvia Rosenzweig Samis will be remembered not only for her musical brilliance but also for her enduring love, kindness, and grace. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and her music will continue to resonate for generations to come.
