On Sunday, August 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Northern Hills Synagogue will host the Jewish Soul Trio as they offer a special performance to celebrate singer-songwriter Debbie Friedman.

The Jewish Soul trio, originally Cincinnati Klezmer Project, brings Eastern European Jewish culture to the fore. The group changed their name to the Jewish Soul Trio after the passing of Steve Stuhlbarg who was known for his guitar playing, Yiddish singing and playful storytelling.

Given the Trio’s emphasis on folk music, their upcoming homage to Debbie Friedman is fitting. Friedman herself transformed American-Jewish music with her creative blend of the folk genre and Jewish liturgy. She wrote music in both Hebrew and English and was appointed as faculty to Hebrew Union College’s School of Sacred Music in New York — now the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music.

This event at Northern Hills promises to offer an exciting combination of song and story.
