Rockdale Temple will host its Bicentennial Rock the Block Shabbat Service and Block Party on Friday, June 7 from 5:00 – 9:30 p.m. in the Rockdale Temple parking lot.

Attendees are invited to enjoy dinner, drinks, music and games as well as a special Shabbat service.

Rockdale Temple, originally established as K.K. Bene Israel, is celebrating two hundred years of Cincinnati community life. The temple was originally founded in 1824 and is the oldest Jewish congregation west of the Allegheny mountain range. Thirty one years after its establishment, the congregation elected Dr. Max Lilienthal the first permanent rabbi of K. K. Bene Israel. Lilienthal, a dear friend of Dr. Isaac Mayer Wise, and a former editor of The American Israelite, helped shape the congregation into a leader in the newly beginning Reform movement.

Celebrations at Rockdale’s Rock the Block will begin at 5:00 p.m. with dinner. Rock Shabbat Services (along with birthday blessings) begin at 6:15 p.m. The block party will continue after services at 7:30 p.m. and will include music and games. Attendees can choose whether they wish to enjoy dinner before Shabbat services or after.

Those wishing to attend can purchase tickets and register on the Rockdale Temple website.
