Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt & Soft Serve

I made the mistake of running a quick errand to a mall on Dec. 26. I assumed the crowds might be lighter given the date, but I was, of course, sorely mistaken. Still, I completed my task, escaped without encountering any road rage and headed somewhere far calmer: Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt. After the sensory overload of post-holiday shopping, the contrast was immediate and welcome.

If you’re not familiar with Rhino’s rhythms, their busiest hours tend to be evenings and late nights. So arriving in the afternoon, fresh from the chaos of the mall, felt almost therapeutic. Owner and manager Lori Miller greeted me with a smile and explained that this time of year naturally brings fewer frozen-yogurt fans than the warmer months. But after seeing a hectic, messy mall food court, Rhino’s felt like a far more peaceful option for a sweet treat, one where you can truly take your time and enjoy your dessert.

Wall of Toppings

Once again, I was struck by the sheer scale of choices. Rhino’s boasts an enormous array of toppings — most of them certified kosher — that fill nearly every inch of wall and counter space. The signage outside says it all: “Over 100 Toppings!” and “21 flavors of soft serve, gelato, sorbet, frozen yogurt and Dole Whip.” It’s not marketing hype; it’s an accurate description. From the classic fruit and chocolate offerings to more inventive seasonal options, there is something to suit every taste, whether you like your dessert simple or over-the-top.

The cold toppings alone are impressive: chocolate chips, Reese’s, Snowflake chocolates, strawberries, cherries and much more. Then there’s the candy wall, a dizzying assortment of items I would never have thought to pair with frozen dessert. Gummy bears, sour worms, candy corn, gumballs — if there’s a topping you’re craving that Rhino’s doesn’t have, I’m not sure I want to know about it.

100 Toppings

And for those with more traditional tastes, fear not. Rhino’s still serves classic hot toppings like chocolate sauce, fudge and caramel, ensuring that purists and adventurers alike are well taken care of.

What I find most impressive about Rhino’s Frozen Yogurt, though, is its popularity with local teens. There’s something reassuringly wholesome about seeing young people gathering at a neighborhood dessert spot in the evening, chatting and lingering rather than rushing off. It’s a small but meaningful reminder of how food-centered spaces help build community. Even if you visit solo, it’s easy to get lost in choosing flavors, experimenting with combinations and just enjoying the atmosphere.
