Dr. Z. Charles Fixler, 100 years old, passed away on January 8, 2026. He was proceeded in death by his wife Betty Lieberman Fixler. He was the loving father of Steve (Betsy), Don, Robert (Joan) and Cindy (Lloyd), loving grandfather of Joey (Brooke) and John (Brittany), Alex and Ryan, Maddy, Nick (Amanda), Paul, Francie and Kit, Jordan (Amy) and Rory, and great grandfather of Brenton and Evyn and Oliver. He is also survived by his dear companion Gretalee Kaplan.
Dr. Fixler was born in Charleston, West Virginia, son of Sam and Helen Fixler. He studied pre-med at the University of Cincinnati, attended medical school in Lausanne Switzerland, interned at Jewish Hospital and completed his dermatology residency at University Hospital. He was a volunteer professor, Department of Dermatology, University of Cincinnati. He also served in the Army in World War II and was a member of the Adath Israel Congregation. Dr. Fixler had served the community and nationally practicing as a dermatologist for over 60 years. He was an honorary member of the Cincinnati Dermatological Society, American Academy of Dermatology, American Dermatology Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
Over the years he received multiple awards including:
– 2005 St. George Award from the American Cancer Society
– 2005 Golden Triangle Award from the American Academy of Dermatology
– 2013 Practitioner of the Year from the Dermatology Foundation
As an avocation, he played the trumpet in the Ohio Military Band for many years. A highlight in his musical career was playing “Barbara Ann” on June 5, 1994, on stage at Riverbend with the Beach Boys.
He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends and his favorite sports teams.
