Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown

Celebrating thirty years in practice is a milestone for most physicians. But for Cincinnati, Ohio’s top voted plastic surgeon, Mark Mandell-Brown MD, it seems like the blink of an eye. “If you have a passion for your work, it does not seem like a job,” commented Dr. Mandell-Brown. He added, “I tell my patients that time marches on, but how did thirty years pass so quickly?”

After attending Northwestern University, (recently rated number nine by US News and World college rankings) the Columbus, Ohio resident, pursued medical school at the University of Cincinnati. He then completed a general surgery internship in Denver before moving to Pittsburgh for Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery. To complete his training he pursued a Plastic Surgery fellowship in Birmingham, Alabama.

He had teaching job offers at Loyola University in Chicago and University of Virginia at Richmond. The highly sought surgeon also had job offers in Melbourne, Florida , Los Angeles, and Los Gatos where he could join Olympian ice skater, Peggy Fleming’s husband in practice. But when an opportunity to return to Cincinnati presented, Dr. Mandell-Brown made that first choice. “I have always loved Cincinnati, the Jewish Community, and the proximity to my parents in Columbus,” he stated.

He joined a group practice with his medical school classmate, Tom Keriakes, MD. However, after the group disbanded after two years, Dr. Mandell-Brown started his own solo practice in 1990. With offices in Montgomery and Batavia, he spent the next ten years planning a free standing cosmetic surgery center.

The Mandell-Brown Plastic Surgery center with state licensure and national accreditation by AAAHC, opened in December 2000. The facility has earned awards by the City of Montgomery. The Center was also featured in national publications like Cosmetic Surgery Times for the challenges in re-designing a home into an office building.

What are Dr. Mandell-Brown’s proudest professional accomplishments in the past thirty years?

• Elected President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery

• Voted “Best Plastic Surgeon” City Beat Magazine

• Named “Top Doc” Plastic Surgery by physician peers Cincinnati Magazine

When asked about future plans, Dr. Mandell-Brown replied, “I hope to practice another ten years!” With good health, a passion for his chosen profession, and his own state-of-the-art surgery center, he hopes to continue the success he has so diligently achieved.

Dr. Gina Maccarone recently joined Mandell Brown Plastic Surgery Center. Dr. Gina Maccarone has always had a passion for both art and science. Her love of science brought her through medical school and surgical training, while her joy in art has led her to pursue cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Maccarone truly enjoys helping patients be able to present their best selves. She’s dedicated to being honest and providing realistic expectations for patients to feel comfortable with their individualized plan. Mercy Health/Jewish Hospital

Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health’s legacy was the first Jewish hospital in the United States, founded in 1850 to serve the Jewish community of Cincinnati. Yet since the beginning, the hospital has been privileged to welcome and care for people of all faiths. To this day, the doctors, residents, nurses and staff of the hospital remain focused on delivering compassionate care and the best outcomes for the Cincinnati community.

The Jewish Hospital’s legacy of teaching the next generation of physicians dates back more than one hundred years, and today, residents in surgery, medicine, podiatry and pharmacy all train at The Jewish Hospital.

Services include the region’s only adult blood and marrow transplant center; a joint replacement center performing nearly one thousand total joint replacements every year; the region’s most experienced mobile mammography program; a weight management center and full-spectrum cardiovascular and emergency services.

Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health features programs in Gamma Knife treatments, the Mercy Health Blood Cancer Center, and has a mobile mammography clinic that performs around thirty thousand mammograms a year.

StarPoint Home Care

Jewish Family Service is now providing personal caregiving services through the acquisition of Cedar Village Home Care. Renamed StarPoint Home Care, caregivers are available 24/7 to help older adults with daily living activities, so they feel comfortable, secure, and independent while remaining in familiar surroundings.

StarPoint Home Care is steeped in Jewish culture and traditions. Caregivers can prepare meals following kosher dietary laws, and Jewish Family Service will be providing special training to help team members serve the unique needs of Holocaust survivors.

Caregivers assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, shopping, light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation and much more.

StarPoint Home Care is an example of the community working together. One goal of this partnership is to ensure current clients continue to receive necessary services without interruption.

Since 1945, the Cincinnati community has relied on Jewish Family Service to strengthen lives in time of need, including those of older adults. The agency helps Holocaust survivors live with dignity, offers activities for vulnerable adults at its Barbash Family Vital Support Center, provides food for those experiencing financial difficulties at its Heldman Family Food Pantry, and directs senior adults to community resources through AgeWell Cincinnati.
