The Mayerson JCC will be hosting an information session for those interested in attending the 2024 March of the Living. An in person session will be on Monday, October 14, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Mayerson JCC. For those who cannot attend on the 14th, there will be an online session on Tuesday, October 29 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
The JCC organizes the event for Jewish high school seniors to visit Poland on Yom HaShoah and march from Auschwitz to Birkenau.
The March of the Living is an international educational program that seeks to bring people to Poland and Israel to learn about the Holocaust. The March began in 1988 and, since then, more than 300,000 participants have completed the March, according to the organization’s website. The website states that the goal of the March is to inspire attendees to end racism and injustice by learning from the horrors of the Holocaust.
After the march between Auschwitz and Birkenau, the group will travel to Israel to observe Yom HaZikaron and to celebrate Yom Ha’Atzmaut.
The 2025 March of the Living begins April 21-May 4.
Students who are in their senior year of high school in the 2024-2025 academic year are eligible to travel with the JCC for the March of the Living. Registration for both information sessions can be found on the Mayerson JCC website.
