The Mayerson JCC has added a powerful new tool to its fitness floor: Keiser’s state-of-the-art pneumatic resistance training equipment. Known for its cutting-edge technology and smooth, joint-friendly design, Keiser is transforming the way members from young athletes to older adults train and build strength.

“Keiser pneumatic resistance training equipment has been around for decades from hospital rehab centers to elite sports performance facilities,” explained Jamie Wolf, Assistant General Manager of Fitness Operations. “What’s unique about the Keiser A400 system is its ability to track dozens of metrics on a large, tablet-like screen. It gives users immediate feedback, helping them train with greater intent and precision.”

The JCC is the first fitness center in Cincinnati to feature the Keiser A400 technology, putting it in a league with professional sports teams and Division I college programs across the country. “We already had a robust lineup, including weight stacks, cable-driven machines and free weights, but this was the missing piece,” Wolf said. “Keiser adds a specialized tool that serves both performance athletes and members working through injury recovery or aging-related needs.”

Wolf emphasized Keiser’s adaptability as a major reason for its selection. “It allows us to train everyone from middle school students to seniors because you can adjust resistance in one-pound increments. That level of control makes training safer and more accessible, especially for beginners or those with joint issues,” he said. Many pieces also allow for unilateral training, which helps us identify and correct muscle imbalances.

Older adults, in particular, benefit from Keiser’s low-impact, high-benefit features. The smooth resistance makes a huge difference. It’s easier on joints and helps improve strength, mobility, bone density, blood sugar control, balance and even cognitive function. Wolf noted. “That’s a big win for anyone focused on aging well.”

Younger athletes and high-performance members have also taken notice. “They absolutely love it,” said Wolf. The real-time data lets them see their best rep, measure force and velocity, and replicate sports-specific movements at speed. It makes training more engaging and goal oriented.

The system also helps demystify strength training for beginners. It looks and feels modern. Wolf added. “It counts your reps, gives you feedback, and makes the experience more intuitive.”

Keiser’s arrival has prompted an increase in fitness staffing, and the JCC is offering weekly demos to help members learn how to use the equipment effectively. “We’re still in the early phases since implementing it in late May, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Wolf shared. “It’s already enhancing our ability to offer sport-specific programming and making the floor more accessible to those with disabilities.”

Ultimately, Wolf sees Keiser as a perfect fit for the JCC’s long-term fitness vision. “This technology aligns with our mission to be inclusive, innovative, and impactful,” he said. “It helps us serve every age and ability with more intention and care.”
