Letter to the Editor: August 10, 2023

Dear Editor,

In regards to Bryan Taplits’ Letter to the Editor in the August 3rd edition:
While it is true that religious zealots, ultra-orthodox and tradition bound Mizrachi have outbred the descendants of the Ashkenazi founders of Eretz Yisroel, thus allowing for the current majority in the Knesset, I would ask, what checks and balances are in place to keep these folk from rolling back reasonable laws that protect gay rights, prevent the melding of religion and state, and totally ignore whatever rights the Arab occupants of the West Bank might have?
The answer of course is, the Supreme Court of Israel, which is why these folk would like to emasculate the same.
The Ashkenazi elite that protect Israel through the IDF and make Israel the envy of the world with their startups and create the economy they, and we, are so rightly proud of (an economy that can afford to support certain unproductive elements that a large part of the current coalition represent) are not gonna stand for it. Believe it or not, the Ashkenazi elite are smarter and tougher than the religious Zionists, the ultra-orthodox and disgruntled Misrachi.
The outcome is assured. Israel will stick to its founding enlightenment principles.
