Leo Harold Munick, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Wyoming, Ohio on August 21, 2023.
Born on June 29, 1931, in Malden, Massachusetts, Leo’s passion for life and spirited determination were characteristics that defined him from his earliest days. Leo graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and continued his education at Tufts Medical School and Dartmouth. Following his studies, he embarked on a successful career in plastic surgery, where his skilled hands and compassionate care left a lasting impression on many lives.
A proud veteran, Leo served his country as a meteorologist during the Korean War, instilling in him values of honor, duty, and perseverance that he carried throughout his life.
A lifelong endurance athlete, Leo’s love for physical challenges was evident in his biking adventures from Cincinnati to St. Louis and walking marathons into his late eighties. In his free time, he also expressed his creativity through a love for gardening, collecting art, and championing local artists, and indulged in life’s sweet pleasures like Graeter’s ice cream and fine wine.
Leo was predeceased by his late wife, Jane, and daughter, Wendy. He is survived by his loving partner, Alice Fegelman; daughters Lisa (Munick) Haffer and Karen (Munick) Klein; son-in-law Stephen Haffer; and grandchildren Jane Haffer, Drew Haffer, and Jordan Klein. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and wisdom that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A private family ceremony will be held to honor Leo’s life. His family is deeply grateful for the support and love shown during this time and requests privacy as they celebrate his life and grieve his loss.
In remembrance of Leo, consider enjoying a scoop of Graeter’s ice cream, raising a glass of wine, or supporting a local artist in his honor. Contributions can also be made to the Schools of Nursing at either Miami University or Cincinnati State.
