As JVS Careers marks its 85th year of empowering individuals, businesses and students in our community, we announce a significant leadership transition that both honors our past and looks forward to the future.
After 10 years of dedicated service, Joni Burton has announced her retirement as CEO of JVS Careers. As she steps down from her role, Joni is looking forward to the next chapter of life, relocating to Florida to enjoy a well-earned retirement. Throughout her tenure, Joni has guided the organization through significant growth, program expansion, and deepened community impact. We extend our deepest gratitude for her leadership, passion and dedication.
With Joni’s retirement, we are excited to welcome Kim Slaton as our new Executive Director. A lifelong Cincinnatian with deep roots in both the organization and its mission, Kim brings a wealth of experience, leadership and passion to this role.
For the past 20 years, Kim has been an integral part of JVS Careers, helping individuals find meaningful employment, advance their careers and assisting businesses in growing and thriving. Her work has impacted countless lives, fostering opportunities for job seekers of all backgrounds, from recent graduates to executives navigating career transitions.
Kim’s personal connection to the agency’s mission runs deep. Her grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, was among those who found hope and dignity through employment assistance from JVS Careers after immigrating to Cincinnati in 1951. Growing up with a clear understanding of how meaningful work transforms lives, Kim has dedicated her career to ensuring that others receive the same support and opportunities that helped shape her family’s journey.
A Certified Professional Career Coach, Kim has nearly two decades of experience in executive coaching, career development and leadership training. She partners with individuals across all industries, guiding them through career transitions with a structured, results-driven approach. She holds a Certificate in Jewish Leadership from Northwestern University and Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership, a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with a concentration in Counseling from SUNY Plattsburgh and is a graduate of the EXCEL Nonprofit Leadership program. Additionally, Kim is a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs® personality assessment and a Certified Professional Résumé Writer.
As Executive Director, Kim will lead JVS Careers into its next chapter, continuing to expand its impact through career services, business support and investment in students through internships and scholarships. Her leadership will further strengthen the organization’s role as a cornerstone of opportunity and economic empowerment in the community.
