Jonty Blackman, a tour guide who specializes in virtual tours of the land of Israel, will visit Adath Israel on Sunday, June 30th. From 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., attendees can virtually experience top-tier restaurants in Israel, including conversations with the proprietors and explorations of their most famous dishes. The tour will feature both northern and southern Israel.

Rabbi Jonathan “Jonty” Blackman describes himself as a  tour guide par excellence. According to his Linkedin page, Jonty developed his virtual tours in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He began his program in March of 2020, and by 2021 he attests that his tours have reached over 10,000 people.

According to his profile on the Classrooms Without Borders page, Blackman “combines layers of knowledge of the Land, history, archaeology, politics, religion, Torah and more. He runs the sessions as if he’s telling a story, taking participants on a journey of discovery through the Land of Israel.”

This culinary tour of Israel is prompted by the beginning of the Galilee Culinary Institute in Israel. The Institute is developed by the Jewish National Fund. According to the Galilee Culinary Institute website, the location in Galilee provides a robust agricultural region, making the GCI “a total immersion culinary institution.”

Those who are interested in the innovative culinary projects coming out of the GCI can check out their website. The site also features many recipes, from wildflower honey cake to shakshouka, to lamb burgers and more!

Blackman will lead his virtual tour at Adath Israel. Those interested in attending may register on the Adath Israel website.
