Jewish Home of Cincinnati Supports OLLI at Adath

Submitted by Jewish Home of Cincinnati

Thanks to a grant from Jewish Home of Cincinnati, The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UC (OLLI) is excited to announce that classes are returning to the Adath Israel Synagogue in Amberley Village. This renewed partnership with Adath will continue to strengthen OLLI’s ties to the community, helping to serve seniors in Amberley Village as well as the surrounding suburbs.

OLLI offers noncredit courses designed for people ages 50 and better who want to rediscover the joy of learning in a friendly, fun, and engaging community. OLLI offers hundreds of daytime courses for personal enrichment, ranging from traditional college subjects to the eclectic, with a diversity of topics in between.

OLLI provides over 500 multiweek courses, seminars, and workshops; one-time lectures and presentations, field trips, social events, and travel opportunities. In addition to courses relevant to seniors in general, OLLI has offered many courses that may be of particular interest to Jewish seniors including “Jewish Music around the World” taught by Paul Evers and “Women of Strength in the New Testament” taught by Rabbi Emeritus Gerry Walter, retired Director of Pastoral Care at Cedar Village.

This fall, OLLI students will experience a variety of one-time and multiweek programs at Adath Israel, including a tour of the facility, “Spice of Life — A Global Spice Odyssey: Exploring the Flavors of the World,” and “Deflating Conflicts and Disputes Using Jewish-Buddhist Emptiness-Compassion.” In addition, Justin Kirschner, Regional Director of the American Jewish Committee Cincinnati Office, will discuss “Unpacking Israel, Palestine, and Antisemitism.”

OLLI offers three eight-week terms each school year (fall, winter, and spring). Classes are typically eight weeks long and meet once a week, but we also offer one-time presentations or series on certain topics. In FY25, classes will take place between September 23, 2024, and June 20, 2025.
