Jewish Home of Cincinnati, Inc. (JHC) is pleased to announce recent grants awarded to twelve area organizations doing work to support Cincinnati Jewish seniors. Grant Committee Co-Chairs Tovah Kirschner and John Silverman thanked the JHC Grant Committee for evaluating proposals. The committee includes JHC Board Chair Jan Frankel, Patti Heldman, Jeanne Schmerler, Ernesto Levy, and JHC Treasurer Beth Guttman. Kirschner explained, “The variety of projects being funded in this newest round of grantmaking each contribute innovative programs for seniors which align with our strategic focus areas, in particular, reducing social isolation, supporting caregivers, improving access to transportation, and promoting health and wellness.”

The organizations funded include: The Mayerson JCC, Jewish Family Service, The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center, Rockwern Academy, Northern Hills Synagogue, The UC Foundation (Ollie at Adath), Cincinnati Community Kollel, JEEP (Jewish Education for Every Person), The Skirball Museum, the Klau Library, the Amberley Village Police Department, and Jewish Federation of Cincinnat’s SAFE Cincinnati Security Fund.

Board Chair Jan Frankel commented, “Now that we have completed three years as a grantmaking organization, it is really exciting to see the scope and variety of innovation in programming for Jewish seniors blossom in our community.” She added, “By listening to the needs of the community, partnering strategically with agencies and key funders, and providing room for adaptation and flexibility, we have been able to see programs launch, grow, and evolve to meet changing needs.”

JHC also announced that the 2023–2024 Wilbur M. Cohen Family Grant to Support Senior Health and Wellness was granted to the Mayerson JCC. The Cohen Family Grant will be used to present two significant programs: a Care Providers Forum and a 5-week Care Partner Support course. Wilbur M. Cohen (of blessed memory) was a former board member of JHC.

The next round of grant applications will open in early 2024.
