Jewish Family Service will host a dining experience called Death Over Dinner on Thursday, April 24, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at its Kenwood location.
The event is a dining experience meant to bring people together in order to engage in discussions about death. Discussing death and end of life matters is often considered taboo, and certainly is not expected dinner table conversation. JFS is hoping to break the stigma around discussing death by hosting a dinner at which the subject of death will be the focus. Centered around a fully kosher three course meal, participants will be encouraged to have small group conversations about their views on death and their end of life values.
The event will be facilitated by the Shomer Collective, an organization aimed at pairing end of life discussions with Jewish wisdom and values. According to the Shomer Collective website, the organization’s mission is to “transform communal culture around death and dying, fostering proactive planning and robust support systems for end-of-life moments.”
Registration information and further details about the program can be found online.
