The Mayerson JCC Jewish and Israeli Film Festival begins February 1 with an in-person showing of “Bad Shabbos.” The film won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. The film stars Ashley Zukerman, Milana Vayntrub, and Kyra Sedgwick. According to the JCC website, the film features a Shabbat meal gone awry due to a sudden death. The film serves as the opening night feature for the Jewish and Israeli Film Festival, which runs the entire month of February. “Bad Shabbos” will be showing on Saturday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the 20th Century Theater in Oakley. Tickets can be purchased on the Mayerson JCC 2025 Film Festival website.
In-person and online showings will take place throughout the month of February. All film and ticketing information can be found on the Film Festival website. The next film in the series is “Full Support,” a documentary, according to the JCC website, about women’s relationships with their bodies as seen in a Jaffa bra shop. The film will screen at the Cincinnati Art Museum on Thursday, February 4, at 7:00 p.m.
“No Name Restaurant” will air February 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mariemont Theatre. According to the film description on the JCC website, the 2023 film tells the story of an unlikely friendship forged in the Sinai desert. “No Name Restaurant” will also receive a virtual screening for those wishing to view the film online up to 48 hours after it airs at the Mariemont Theatre.
On Monday, February 10, “The Glory of Life” will screen at the Cincinnati Skirball Museum from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. “The Glory of Life” is a German film based on a Michael Kumpfmüller novel. According to the JCC website, the film depicts the final year of Franz Kafka’s life, during which he met and fell in love with Dora Diamant. Kafka’s most famous works include “The Metamorphosis” and “The Trial,” though he was published quite prolifically throughout his life and after his death. Those interested in the film can see it in person at the Skirball, but it will also be available as a virtual screening for 48 hours after it premieres. Tickets for both in-person and virtual screenings can be purchased on the JCC 2025 Film Festival website.
