On Thursday, March 20, Hebrew Union College will celebrate Founders’ Day. Intended to honor the original vision of founders Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise and Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Founders’ Day recognizes alumni who are receiving honorary degrees after 25 years of service to the Jewish community.
This year’s speaker is Rabbi David A. Lyon, who has served in the rabbinate since being ordained at Hebrew Union College in 1990. Rabbi Lyon served as an Assistant Rabbi at Beth Israel in Houston and as Rabbi at Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing, Michigan and Temple Shalom in Dallas, Texas before returning to Beth Israel in 2004 as Senior Rabbi.
Lyon’s talk will start at 11 a.m. in the Scheuer Chapel with lunch to follow.
