Gods teemed in the ancient world, yet the ancient Israelites are often touted as monotheists — those who believe there is only one god. But were the ancient Israelites truly monotheists? Or did they believe in the existence of other gods while refusing to worship them?
Dr. Bill T. Arnold, HUC alum, will explore these questions and more on Wednesday, May 7 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. During his talk, he will discuss conceptions of deity in antiquity and the presentation of God in the Hebrew Bible.
Arnold is Paul S. Amos Professor of Old Testament Interpretation at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Authoring or editing over a dozen books, Dr. Arnold specializes in Ancient Israel’s history, Hebrew Bible/Old Testament interpretation, and Biblical Hebrew syntax.
