Ohio University Hillel celebrated a slam-dunk Havdalah this month by merging the spiritual end of Shabbat with the spirit of Bobcats basketball.

At Hoops and Havdalah, held the first Saturday in February, Jewish students enjoyed complimentary tickets to the OU Men’s basketball game against the Miami University RedHawks during Sibs Weekend and then participated in a post-game Havdalah ceremony with Head Basketball Coach Jeff Boals. The event, held at the OU Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio, was funded by $1,200 in donations from supporters of OU Hillel.

After the game, the students and their siblings lit the Havdalah candle, passed the spice box, and sang the blessings. Coach Boals then answered questions about his game plan, his journey to becoming coach, and his views on leadership.
