Tashlich & Havdalah at the Park

On Saturday, September 27, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Wise Temple will be hosting a meaningful and relaxed evening at Swaim Park in Montgomery, Ohio. RSVP by September 25 to attend the event.

Participants will gather at the large shelter in the park for a short Tashlich service to symbolically cast off the past year’s missteps into the water.

After the service, there will be time for dinner. Participants are welcome to bring their own picnic or select the ticket option for a nice dinner from Dewey’s.

As Shabbat ends, participants are welcome to come back together for a Havdalah ceremony to start the next week.

Israel’s Milestones and Their Meanings Session #2

On Sunday, September 28, the Wise Center will be hosting the second part in its eight part series on the history of Israel. Presented by Rabbi Zachary Goodman and based on material from the Shalom Hartman Institute, this informative series explains the history of Israel through pivotal events like the Balfour Declaration in 1917, the UN Partition Plan in 1947 and the Six-Day War in 1967.

These seminal events in Israel’s history will also be contextualized in the wake of October 7, 2023.

Each session features a lecture and roundtable discussion, with optional background readings and primary sources for further exploration.

In Session 2, key primary source documents will be investigated to examine the years leading up to the creation of the State of Israel. The evolving relationship between Arab population and the Zionist community will be traced, as will the impact of Jewish refugee influxes from Europe and Arab countries in the 1950s and the trauma of 1948 War of Independence. The origins of the Palestinian refugee crisis will also be explored.

For anyone interested in history, especially Israel’s history, the “Israel’s Milestones and Their Meanings” series promises to be a great event.
