Take Me Higher-An Alternative Elul Experience 

On Saturday, September 13, between 7 and 10 p.m., the Mayerson JCC will be hosting Antonia Lasser to lead a discussion on the power and purpose of Jewish communal singing. Lassar is a Los Angeles-based comedian best known for her hit show, “The Best Jew.” 

Being a creative, Lassar will offer her own unique take on Jewish music. She will also be sharing her own healing journey through song. The event will end with Havdalah and a dessert buffet. Kids programing will also be available. 

Spirituality Prepares for the High Holy Days Together 

Starting on Wednesday ,September 10 and lasting through the 17th, join Rabbi Sammy Kanter in a powerful discussion of Rabbi Alan Lew’s book, “This Is Real and You Are Completely Unprepared.” The event is open to members of the JCC and/or 60&Better Center, and will be taking place prior to The Yamim Nora’im (Days of Awe), which is a time filled with beautiful rituals, uplifting melodies and personal reflection. 

“This Is Real and You Are Completely Unprepared” was published in 2003 by Rabbi Alan News, an award-winning author. Lew is the author of several other titles like “Be Still and Get Going: A Jewish Meditation Practice for Real Life” and “On God Clapping: The Spiritual Path of a Zen Rabbi.” 

“This Is Real” is a unique book that combines Torah readings, Buddhist parables and stories from Lew’s own life. The discussion of the book promises to be enlightening and engaging.
