The history of the mechanical displays of the Cincinnati Industrial Exposition is simply the history of the finest collections of machinery which it is possible to bring together in the space afforded by Power Hall. In fact, it can be said without fear of successful denial, that no other city in the country has ever produced so gigantic and varied a display of manufacturing machinery, as well as so extensive and comprehensive a showing of metal and wood working machines as has been represented in the last two annual Expositions.
The Hebrew Union College
According to the resolutions of the Council, the Preparatory Department of the Hebrew Union College must be opened on or before October 1, 1875, and we have no doubt the Board of Governors will punctually execute the resolves of Council. For the information of students we publish the following particular points: None but graduates, or students of any college or high school, are admitted to the Hebrew Union College. Therefore, in order to be admitted, the student must produce a graduating diploma. The candidate for admission is also required to know the history contained in the Bible, and to have a fair knowledge of Hebrew grammar, or else he will not be able to take up the studies of the lower grade, and to get along with the class, which is expected to read the first year Pentateuch and Psalms, extracts from Mishna and Mechilta, and take through the whole Hebrew grammar.
Pottsville, PA — The new temple of this city will be dedicated Friday next. The editor of the American Israelite will be present to deliver the oration. A full report of the solemnities will appear in this journal.

Notice to Congregations
After confirmation, which usually occurs on Shabuoth-which falls this year on the third day of June – the year of most ministers ends, and they are at liberty then to consider the advisability of making changes. Congregations seeking ministers would therefore do well to advertise their wants now. All advertisements of this kind are inserted in a uniform space of two inches each, at a charge of $2 for each insertion.
Notice
All persons having letters of the late Dr. I. M. Wise will greatly oblige the publishers by sending them to this office, so that copies of the same may be made. The originals will be returned at once – Leo Wise & Co.
Letter to Editor & Response
Does The Israelite assert that the statement of Dr. Heller–that he was elected by the Ahawath Chesed Congregation upon the terms set forth in the Times Democrat—is true? Will The Israelite publish in its columns a contradiction over the signature of the officers of the congregation?—Hebrew Standard
The Israelite knows nothing of the matter of its own knowledge. It knows Dr. Heller, however, and is quite certain that his statement is true or he would not have made it. If the officers of the congregation desire to say anything, in proper language, in the columns of The Israelite they are welcome to do so; we have no fear that Dr. Heller will be found to have made any statement that the facts do not fully warrant.
Roumanian Jews
Immigration authorities are alarmed at the prospect of a large influx of Roumanian Jews, as reports that have been received here indicate that there is to be an exodus from Roumania of between 200,000 and 300,000 Jews. Many of them are headed for the United States.

The Negro Soldier
Praised by Ex-Governor Malcolm R. Patterson. In Memphis Commercial Appeal.
The article of G.W. Lee published in Sunday’s Commercial Appeal is well worth reading. Lee, a colored man, was an officer in the 368th Infantry in the World War, and his statement is one of the many replies to the charges of Gen. Bullard to the effect that Negro soldiers of the 92nd Division were lacking in courage.
