On Sunday, June 30, Jewish Family Service of Cincinnati is hosting Family Movie Day featuring “Inside Out 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to “Inside Out.” The original film premiered in 2015, and is described as “a comedy-adventure set inside the mind of an 11-year old girl. (It) is the kind of classic that lingers in the mind after you’ve seen it, sparking personal associations” (RogerEbert.com).
In “Inside Out 2,” Riley, the movie’s protagonist, is now a teenager encountering new emotions and experiences. According to Forbes magazine, “‘Inside Out 2’ is the best Pixar movie in years. It’s pretty fitting that Pixar should come out with ‘Inside Out 2’ nine years later, and the movie hits all the right beats. As fun as it is for kids, this is a movie that will delight parents more.”
“‘Inside Out 2’ does a great job at zooming into this years-long journey of self-discovery into just one difficult weekend, where friendships are tested and the awkwardness of growing up — making that leap from Middle School to High School, experiencing puberty for the first time, etc. — is on full display. It’s fitting that Anxiety plays the role as chief antagonist (but not villain).”
Showing at 1:00 at the Kenwood Theater, audience members can enjoy a selection of delicious snacks, and there will be exciting prizes and goodies for all in attendance. The suggested age is 10 and over. The JFS’s Youth Mental Health Team will be available before and after the show to answer any questions about their programs, and parents will receive a helpful guide to continue the conversation about emotions, coping skills, and more at home.
Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to enjoy a family-friendly movie and learn more about supporting youth mental health.
Also on June 30th, the Mayerson JCC is hosting its Family Movie Night from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Gather with friends and family to watch movies under the stars. Bring chairs or a blanket, but don’t worry about movie snacks, as they’re provided.
