Cincinnati Hadassah will once again host its annual mahjongg tournament on Sunday, June 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kenwood Country Club. This is the eighth year in a row that Hadassah has hosted the event. Tickets are $80 per person and cover four rounds (16 games), five raffle tickets, and lunch. There will be prizes and a raffle as well.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cardiac Unit at Hadassah Hospital.
Hadassah funds two hospitals in Jerusalem. Hadassah’s first hospital was founded in Jerusalem in 1918 by The Women’s Zionist Organization of America. Since then, Hadassah has expanded and built two medical centers in Jerusalem, one on Mt. Scopus and one in Ein Karem. With support from Hadassah chapters all over the world, the hospitals have become leaders in cutting edge medical care and serve over a million people a year, according to the Hadassah website. In their overview statement on the site, the organization states that heir goal is to “serve as a model for coexistence, building on our long history of being a beacon of healing for patients around the world — curing the sick, making broken lives whole, and giving hope where there’s been none.”
Cincinnati Hadassah’s 8th annual “Jon Boskind Memorial” mahjong tournament benefits this mission.
Mahjongg was originally developed in China, though it made its way west very quickly and is played all across the globe. The game is played with four players who take turns laying tiles. Players who can create four sets of tiles and another pair of tiles win the game.
Registration for the Hadassah mahjongg tournament opens at 9:00 a.m. and the tournament itself begins at 9:30 a.m. Lunch is at 11:30, and the tournament will resume from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. after that. Winners, raffles and door prizes will be announced at 3:15 p.m.
