(JNS) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that an explosion occurred on Tuesday evening near the country’s embassy in New Delhi, India.
No one was injured in the blast, the cause of which remains unclear.
Israeli security officials, in conjunction with Indian authorities, opened an investigation into the incident.
In January 2021, a small explosion occurred near the embassy in New Delhi, blowing out nearby car windows but causing no injuries.
The Indian government later concluded that the attack was carried out by the Quds Force branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
In February 2012, the wife of the Israeli military attaché was injured by a car bomb in the Indian capital. Local police determined that the IRGC was behind the attack.
Last month, a 53-year-old man was arrested in Tokyo after crashing his vehicle into a barricade close to the entrance of the Israeli embassy.
One police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.
Police later identified the attacker as Sekiguchi Shinobu, a member of the Seidokai Gijuku far-right group.
In October, an Israeli embassy official was attacked in Beijing as Hamas called for a day of global “mobilization” against the Jewish people.
The attack did not occur inside the embassy compound, and the diplomat was in stable condition after being evacuated to the hospital.
A week later, Cypriot police arrested four Syrians after an improvised explosive device was thrown 30 meters away from Israel’s embassy in Nicosia.
Following the blast, two people walking near the Israeli mission were detained, as were two others in a car. Police found two knives and a hammer inside the vehicle.
