Adath will be hosting its annual Mimouna celebration Friday, May 3, from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m. at Lerner Fisher Hall. Shabbat services will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Mimouna Feast at 7:00 p.m. The Adath Israel congregation invites the community to celebrate the end of Passover with traditional Moroccan food and an open bar.
Mimouna is a traditionally Moroccan celebration that marks the return of leaven to the diet and the end of the Passover festival. The holiday is often marked by the use of the number 5, a reference to the hamsa symbol. Foods such as round challah, milk, butter, honey and wheat are commonly consumed. While the celebration began in Moroccan Jewish communities, it has expanded to become more widely celebrated in other Jewish communities as well.
In its announcement of the May 3 Mimouna Festival, Adath Israel Mimouna organizers invite attendees to “immerse [themselves] in the rich traditions of Moroccan and Sephardi Jews.”
Mint tea and a moufleta, other staples of the celebration, will also be served at the event.
RSVPs can be submitted on the Adath Israel Congregation website. Please RSVP by Friday, April 26.
