Izzy’s — World’s Greatest Reubens

Now that we are fully into the warm, sunny days of spring, everyone seems to have more to do and less time to focus on lunch. So, if you’re on the go but still craving something delicious to power you through the day, don’t forget just how satisfying a sandwich from Izzy’s World Famous Reubens can be.

Of course, there’s the classic Reuben, a true champion among sandwiches. I’ve enjoyed Reubens from restaurants and delis all around the Midwest, and Izzy’s version consistently ranks among the very best. Most Izzy’s fans are already well acquainted with this iconic creation — tender corned beef piled high between slices of rye bread, topped with tangy sauerkraut.

But what about the other tempting choices you might not have considered at this century-old eatery? For starters, Izzy’s offers a full array of soups and salads. For those counting carbs or simply seeking lighter fare, there are three different wraps to enjoy: turkey, corned beef and tuna.

If you’re a sandwich enthusiast like me, you’ll be delighted by the variety that extends far beyond the traditional Reuben. From the hearty New Yorker, stacked with both corned beef and pastrami, to the comforting Meat Loaf Sandwich, and even the unique fish Reuben known as the “Codfather,” Izzy’s delivers the flavors and creativity that keep sandwich aficionados coming back to try something new.

Izzy’s menu also features more. Diners can choose from all-beef salami or franks, tuna or chicken salad and even a Veggie Reuben for those who prefer a meatless option.

No visit to Izzy’s would be complete without the obligatory potato pancake that accompanies every sandwich. Tired of the usual French fries or tater tots? Izzy’s signature potato pancake satisfies that craving for a crispy, salty side while offering something delightfully different.

And if all these choices — and many more — still don’t quite match your mood, Izzy’s makes it easy to create your own sandwich just the way you like it.

On a recent visit, I opted for a simple yet satisfying Two-Meat Sandwich, selecting turkey and roast beef, complemented by ripe tomatoes and fresh lettuce. Both meats were flavorful and fresh, and they complemented each other wonderfully — tasty, bright and oh so satisfying.

Speaking of menu items you may not know about, have you ever tried dessert at Izzy’s? I hadn’t until this visit, when I ordered the Individual Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. This petite confection was the perfect way to finish the meal. The vanilla flavor was delicate yet delicious, and the vanilla bean mousse topping added a lovely touch of sweetness without being overwhelming.

In keeping with its outstanding menu, the staff at Izzy’s is consistently upbeat and eager to serve. The managers are genuinely warm and outgoing, clearly taking pride in their work and in the restaurant itself. Such dedication is refreshing in an industry where staff turnover is often high. Beyond the leadership, the entire team remains friendly and helpful, no matter how busy the restaurant becomes.

With six locations across the Greater Cincinnati area and beyond, a stop at Izzy’s is almost always just a short drive away.

So, as spring weather settles in and life becomes increasingly hectic, don’t neglect your appetite. Take a few extra minutes to swing into Izzy’s for a huge variety of outstanding sandwiches and so much more. Izzy’s World Famous Reubens is truly a place where the last taste lingers long after it’s gone.
