In regards to the 11/13 issue column on page 18 at the top (by Danoff & Korn), the blinking of the eyes at the election of Mamdani and the refusal to confront reality prompts this other instance of when reality was also dismissed.
It was said by German Jews — when Hitler was elected and started to persecute Jews — Germany would never ignore their laws — after all it was a civilized society. This was the the country of the famous composers Bach, Beethoven and Brahms; and German philosophers like the idealistic Hegel, all of whom demonstrated that Germany was too sensitive and sensible to eviscerate Jews who had been citizens of Germany for many generations.
And then Hitler was elected in the early 1930s.
Guess what happened? German Jews — when it was once inconceivable that this would happen — were assailed and assaulted and discriminated against by the new Nazi regime.
These things will also happen in Mamdani-land, except it will become more terroristic. Muslims and anti-semites will think that Mamdani’s election gives them free reign to pummel and assail Jews wherever they find them. Children will really be at risk, in my opinion!
What should be done? This: The many Jewish funds fund many worthwhile causes. This should be one more. One (or more of them) of the funds should focus on New York City and its Mamdani-manifested jog to both anti-semitism, which eventually always leads to violent anti-semitism
They should promote and offer ways (viz money) to emigrate to other states. Moreover, those New Yorker Jews who will need jobs should also be helped to find new jobs in the states they select to go to.
This will do at least 2 fundamental things: Keep the refugee Jews safe — and also keep their children who are molested, murdered or raped because they are Jews, safe. Also, this will alert NY that Jews are more than just a religious group. They are a necessary cog of propulsive firing power in the engine of New York.
One more thing would be nice: Namely, Mamdani (and his anti-semitic Administration) being impeached or — better yet — run out of office.
The “Good Germans” of NY will realize that they can no longer be silent out of survival for themselves.
One of the signals that should worry NY Jews is a new campaign of “gun control laws.” This is one of the ways Hitler’s Germany unarmed Jews, even if they wanted to they couldn’t defend themselves.
Another signal — and I know it seems unlikely and even far-fetched — if Mamdani (and his Administration) orders the Jews to stay in 1 or 2 places. These will become the Jewish ghettos of Germany.
We have the money (I believe); we certainly have the organizational skills and the brains; the only problem we face: Do we have the will?
