Cincinnati Kosher Hosts Inaugural CK VIP Fundraiser at the Newport Car Barn

On June 8, 2025, members of the greater Cincinnati Jewish community gathered for a new and meaningful occasion: the first CK VIP Event, a fundraiser supporting the Vaad of Kashrus of Cincinnati, also known as Cincinnati Kosher. Held at the Newport Car Barn, the event served as both a fundraiser and a moment to acknowledge the work that goes into maintaining kashrus across the region.

Guests were welcomed to an evening described as “a sophisticated night of prime steak, select bourbon and community impact.” The program combined a high-quality meal and bourbon tasting with a message of appreciation for the team behind Cincinnati Kosher — the rabbis and staff who handle the daily work of kosher certification.

Cincinnati Kosher was founded to meet the needs of Jews living outside major Jewish centers who want access to kosher food and services. Over time, the organization has become a key part of Jewish life in Cincinnati, northern Kentucky and southwestern Ohio. Its work includes certifying restaurants, caterers, retail products and community institutions.

Rabbi Laizer Fisher, who relocated from Monsey, NY, has led the organization for nearly five years. Together with Rabbi Avrohom Weinrib, he has worked to ensure that kosher observance is practical and reliable for both local residents and visitors.

Cincinnati Kosher currently certifies a wide range of establishments, including the Mayerson JCC, Marx Hot Bagels and Orange Spot Bistro, as well as numerous food vendors, event spaces and retail items. Their work includes inspections, staff training, halachic guidance, and helping businesses meet kosher standards without disrupting their operations.

The CK VIP Event was held in the Newport Car Barn, a restored industrial venue with an open layout and warm atmosphere. Guests were served a multi-course meal featuring steak, seasonal dishes and dessert. The menu was presented with the level of care that Cincinnati Kosher is known for.

A standout feature of the evening was a bourbon tasting, which included several certified selections. One highlight was the announcement that New Riff Distilling, a bourbon producer based in Newport, is now certified kosher. This development was well received by attendees and signals a broader trend of local companies seeking kosher certification.

New Riff’s entry into the kosher market represents growing interest among producers to make their offerings accessible to observant Jews. For those who keep kosher, it also means a greater ability to enjoy local products without concerns about certification.

While food and drink were part of the appeal, the main focus of the evening was to recognize the behind-the-scenes work that makes kosher living possible in the region. From early-morning visits to bakeries to ingredient reviews and factory inspections, the team at Cincinnati Kosher handles complex logistics and halachic decisions that most people never see.

The event gave the community an opportunity to offer its thanks and to support the organization financially. It also served as a signal of intent — to help Cincinnati Kosher grow, keep up with rising demand and remain a stable presence for future generations.

With new establishments seeking certification and an increased public interest in kosher offerings, the Vaad is preparing for growth. This includes the need for more staff, upgraded tools and expanded educational efforts.
