Iran: The US will bear the blame if Israel strikes nuclear facilities

(JNS) — Tehran will hold the United States responsible for any Israeli attacks on its nuclear facilities, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in a letter to the United Nations published on Thursday.

“We believe that in the event of any attack on the nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Zionist regime, the U.S. government will also be involved and bear legal responsibility,” Araghchi said, according to the Saudi outlet Al Arabiya.

In addition, the foreign minister posted on social media that if the international community did not take “preventive measures” against Israel, Iran would be compelled to take “special measures in defense of our nuclear facilities and materials.”

UN, BBC walk back Gaza infant death toll claim

(JNS) — The United Nations and the BBC on Wednesday corrected a dramatic claim that 14,000 infants in the Gaza Strip faced death within 48 hours, clarifying that the figure actually refers to children at risk of severe malnutrition over the course of a full year.

After asking the U.N.’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for clarification, the BBC reported that the remarks were based on a report that warned that 14,100 severe cases of acute malnutrition were expected to occur between April 2025 and March 2026 among children aged between six months and five years.

On Monday, Canada, the United Kingdom and France issued a joint communiqué expressing opposition to expanded Israel Defense Forces operations in Gaza and calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

“We call on the Israeli government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza,” the May 19 statement said.
