Israeli Air Forces strikes in Khan Yunis as seen from Rafah in the southernmost Gaza Strip, May 6, 2024
(JNS) — An Israeli airstrike overnight Sunday in the Khan Yunis area killed Hassan Abd al-Fattah Muhammad Atzlih, a Hamas terrorist who infiltrated Israel during the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks.
Atzlih had operated under the false pretense of being a journalist and media company owner, Israeli authorities said. He is alleged to have crossed over from Gaza during the invasion and captured footage of violent acts—including looting, arson and murder—for dissemination on social media.
The IDF said extensive precautions were taken to minimize civilian casualties in the airstrike. These included the use of precision-guided munitions, real-time aerial surveillance and corroborated intelligence.
In addition to the targeted strike, Israeli military officials reported that over the weekend, Air Force units attacked more than 130 Hamas-affiliated sites throughout the Gaza Strip. These operations are part of a continuing effort to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and safeguard Israeli civilians and soldiers.
The IDF and Shin Bet reaffirmed their commitment to neutralizing threats posed by Hamas and maintaining security along Israel’s southern border.
