The Mayerson JCC will host a workshop series for care providers beginning Wednesday, March 5. This series is intended for those who care for family members and loved ones. According to a 2024 study on healthcare for older adults by Fields et al. in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, almost 25% of adults from ages 45-64 provide assistance to a family member or close friend. Almost 19% of Americans over 65 are also care providers. A third of these caregivers help family members or close friends for at least 20 hours per week, if not more. According to the study, the demand for caregiving is expected to “grow exponentially” as the American population ages.

The JCC is seeking to educate Caregivers through its Care Partner Support: Five Weeks to Change series. Each weekly workshop is 90 minutes. The sessions provide caregiving strategies for those who assist those living with dementia. The sessions will also function as a place for caregivers to share information and reduce the stress that can accumulate as a care partner.

There are five sessions in total, beginning March 5 and running every Wednesday until April 2. Those interested in attending can find registration information as well as pricing on the Mayerson JCC website.
