Jewish Home of Cincinnati, Inc. (JHC) is pleased to announce that in 2024, it awarded seventeen area organizations grants for over twenty projects which support Cincinnati Jewish seniors. Grant Committee Co-Chairs Tovah Kirschner and Jan M. Frankel thanked the JHC Grant Committee for their time and attention spent reading, reviewing and discussing proposals. In addition to Kirschner and Frankel, the committee includes JHC Board Chair Alan Eichner, Patti Heldman, Jeanne Schmerler, Vallie Freeman, John Silverman and Beth Guttman. Additional committee observers include Chad Levin, Josh Harkavy and Elliott Polsky.
The organizations funded in 2024 include: The Mayerson JCC, Jewish Family Service, The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center, Rockwern Academy, Cincinnati Community Kollel, JEEP (Jewish Education for Every Person), The Klau Library, the Amberley Village Police Department, Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, KK Bene Israel Rockdale Temple, Isaac M. Wise Temple, Adath Israel Congregation, Birds of a Feather (Ish), Golf Manor Synagogue, WCET, Cincinnati Ballet, Proseniors and Vihadarta (Golf Manor).
JHC also announced that the 2024 Wilbur M. Cohen Family Grant to Support Senior Health and Wellness was granted to the Golf Manor Synagogue for the program “An Ounce of Prevention: Women’s Wellness in the Perimenopausal Period.” Wilbur M. Cohen (of blessed memory) was a former board member of JHC and a champion for Cincinnati Jewish seniors.
In 2024, JHC also launched a unique partnership with Jewish Family Service K’Vod Connect to provide exceptional Jewish programming, shabbat and religious services and pastoral care to the residents at Majestic Care of Cedar Village. This model allows the Jewish life team to also engage the services of JF’s exceptional social work and mental health professionals if needed to further support the residents at Cedar Village. The on-site team has created a welcoming lounge space for scheduled sessions or drop in socializing and also presents approximately four sessions of Jewish learning, engagement or worship per week. Rabbi Simon Stratford is the on-site spiritual leader of the program and he is supported by program professionals Dara Wood and Mallory Moscovitch. Rabbi Yair Walton and JFS’s Senior Director of Integrated Services June Ridgeway oversee the K’Vod Connect Program, which also provides services to other local senior living communities and to seniors residing in their homes.
The next round of JHC grant applications is now open and deadline for submissions is March 19, 2025.
