Rockwern’s Division of Adulting group will be hosting “How To: Sukkot and Shabbat” on Friday, October 18, from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. The event will feature a meal in the sukkah. Sukkot is a seven day holiday during which the autumn harvest is celebrated. A sukkah is a temporary shelter built for the holiday which represents the time the Israelites spent in the wilderness after their liberation from Egyptian enslavement. There are numerous interpretations of the importance of the sukkah. Philo, the 1st century BCE Jewish scholar, understood the shelter as a reminder of the transience of earthly riches. Philo suggested the sukkah was meant to remind the wealthy of the poor. Those interested in the event must RSVP by October 14. The address of the event will be shared upon registration.
