WHAT: The Mayerson JCC will host an outdoor Fall Market at the J. Dozens of vendors will offer a variety of handcrafted goods, produce and other food items, and flowers, which will be available for purchase.
In addition to vendor booths, the J will host artist-in-residence Siona Benjamin for a Chalk the Walk event. Benjamin will offer a workshop on the Rangoli artform from India, and participants will have an opportunity to decorate the J’s sidewalks and parking lot in that style of art.
Also featured at the Fall Market will be the Jewish Family Service (JFS) Sukkot Food Drive. JFS will collect kosher and non-kosher food items, as well as personal care items, to benefit the Heldman Family Food Pantry. Sukkot is one of the High Holidays that follow Rosh Hashanah, giving thanks for the fall harvest.
WHO: Mayerson JCC
WHEN: Sunday, September 10, 2023 | 10am–2pm
Chalk the Walk | 10:30-11:30am and 12:30-1:30pm
WHERE: 8485 Ridge Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45236
WHY: The event falls ahead of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which begins at sunset on September 15 and ends at nightfall on September 17. It is traditional to eat apples and honey, as well as pomegranates, on Rosh Hashanah—items that will be prominently featured at the Fall Market. Siona Benjamin offers a unique perspective as an Indian-American-Jewish artist, which inspired her to create art that represents her transcultural and multicultural narrative.
