In memory of Michael Glassman

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Michael Glassman, a man whose pride was measured by the legacy of love that surrounded him. Seventy-one years young, Michael lived a life richly filled with family that were friends, friends who were family, and a tapestry of loved ones from all corners of the world that created a circle of life that he lived to the fullest each and every day.
Known for his intelligence, humility, and hugs, he was a pillar in the Jewish and greater Cincinnati communities. Born in Toledo, Michael made Cincinnati his home in 1968. No matter where you were, you always felt at home in Michael’s company. Often described as the “favorite” to anyone who knew him, he was everything to everyone. A constant during the changing times and seasons of life; a contagious laugh, even through a photo; optimistic yet also sensible; and someone who always knew how to have fun. He was a collector — of people, of experiences, of the moments that filled his cup.
As a president of Adath Israel, Michael Glassman was an admired and respected leader who stewarded the Jewish congregation with authenticity, great care and thoughtful intent. His invaluable advice, rooted in wisdom and nobility, was both a contribution and a gift to our community decades beyond his presidency tenure.
Philanthropic to the core, Michael served on multiple boards, volunteered with countless charities, and always graciously supported his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati, graduating UC Law and Order of the Coif. He was an outstanding and exemplary leader in the legal field, as many often turned to him for his sage guidance — both professionally and personally. His work ethic continues to be an inspiration, for Michael began his career at Dinsmore as a summer clerk and retired 43 years later as a partner.
Michael was an exemplary example of a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted husband to Charlene Glassman and beloved father of Ami (Joshua) Ackerman, Ashley (Robb) Stokar and Brooke Glassman. He was the brother of Susan (Mark) Kaufman and brother-in-law of Mike Stein, Sharon Jordan and Janet (Doron) Elam. He was the Papa of Evelyn, Samantha and Benjamin Ackerman and Sadie, Ellie and Mia Stokar. Michael is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Above all, he was a righteous and generous man. Generous with his time, his heart, his intellect, he gave of himself without seeking fanfare. Never one to seek the glory, instead he let these many virtuous attributes shine for themselves.
He was and continues to be a true blessing for all who were lucky enough to know him. To know him was to love him. Let us celebrate the true giant that he was. May his memory live eternally in each of us.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Adath Israel Congregation or the charity of your choice would always be appreciated.
