Ted Deutch, CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) met Ted Deutsch, owner and publisher of The American Israelite, last Wednesday, May 24th. The two Teds met at a media breakfast briefing at which Deutch was sharing how the AJC is fighting antisemitism, creating opportunities with Israel, and building diverse intergroup coalitions. Deutch also shared the results from the AJC’s State of Antisemitism in America survey.
The AJC has a multifaceted approach to combatting antisemitism here in the United Sates. The organization works with policymakers to confront anti-Jewish hate and assist in legislation that prevents it.
The AJC also raises awareness about antisemitism with surveys, such as their recent State of Antisemitism in America survey. Surveys such as this aim to educate Americans about antisemitism and teach people how to recognize it. Finally, the AJC works to counter online antisemitism as well. The organization works with numerous social media platforms to identify and put an end to antisemitic rhetoric.
The May 24th breakfast was not the first time Cincinnati’s Deutsch had met a member of the Deutch family. Ed Deutch, Ted’s brother, owned a sub shop in Athens, Ohio called The Hole in the Wall Sub Shop/Pony Keg, where The Israelite’s Deutsch was employed while he attended college at Ohio University.
