Passover is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt over three thousand years ago, following generations of slavery. This year, Passover begins at sundown, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

“We are so excited to be making a difference with this: our 25th annual Dr. Samuel S. Rockwern Passover Delivery Project of Jewish Family Service,” said JFS CEO Liz Vogel. “This event leverages donations and volunteer energy to make the Passover holiday a viable possibility for those experiencing food insecurity. The special items needed for the seder have become increasingly expensive, and we know we have a solemn obligation to be charitable. But beyond that, this event provides a critical touchpoint for those individuals suffering from social isolation.”

On Sunday, April 2, JFS staff, and JFS volunteers, will deliver bags filled with Passover food to the homes of families throughout Greater Cincinnati. “Passover is so meaningful to all of us, and the Dr. Samuel S. Rockwern Passover Delivery Project helps families honor the holiday with food that is appropriate for the celebration,” said Nancy Steinberg Warren, JFS Board President. “However, we also know that some of these families, as well as older adults on a fixed income, struggle to put food on the table all year-round. That’s why, as we raise funds for Passover, we always hope to exceed our goals, which allows us to keep the Heldman Family Food Pantry well stocked for the weeks and months that come after the holiday.”

Last year, more than six hundred individuals received assistance through Jewish Family Service Heldman Family Food Pantry, located in the Barbash Family Vital Support Center. It is the only food pantry in the region that includes a section with a full array of kosher foods, including meat.

You can volunteer to help deliver Passover food this year. Please come to the Jewish Family Service Barbash Family Vital Support Center on the HUC Campus, 3113 Clifton Ave, Sunday, April 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to help deliver food.
